RC Snubber Circuit Basics

Post by NV185864 »

Does it matter which comes first? the R or the C relative to ground? I am using an RC snubber on some long serial comm lines. They are working great but I noticed I had the C on the positive side of the R to ground? I guess I assumed RC meant just that, R then C to ground.

Please help!

Thanks,

Joe

No, in your application it doesn't matter if you connect the R to the data line and the C to ground or the C to the data line and the R to ground.

The order may be important in some cases with very high voltages (ie: the capacitor's case should be grounded) or in some radio frecuency circuits (where stray capacitance may be noticeable).
