Wireless trigger

Is there a simple way to use a 9V battery, push button, and some simple circuitry to generate a signal that will go at least 50ft and trigger a sound effect chip? I just need to know how to make the transmitter and a reciever that simply sends a trigger signal.<p>Also, what is a good sound chip (5-10 sec) that is cheap (samples are always nice)?<p>Also a chip that could have like 5 sounds it rotates through (5-10 sec each) would be nice, and one that doesn't lose power when the battery does.<p>Thanks!

For $25, you get a TX and RX that would power up your voice chip (also available from RS)($5?).

Whats the fun in buying something from a store when you can build it? <p>If radioshack sells it for $25 its probably worth less than $10, so i'm sure it would be easy to build something like that, right????<p>

Mike, on http://www.tinaja.com/ I saw some reference to the e-series remotes. Don claimed that the RF side was pretty simple and what was transmitted was a 24 bit password with a PIC uC on both ends. A uC could also generate sound effects.

The simplest way is probably to buy a cheap radio controlled car and use its receiver to control the sound chip. I've seen toys like this for less than $15 and you'd have the result quickly. Radio Shack used to sell sound chips; if they don't still carry them, DigiKey (www.digikey.com) will.

any non-pic ways.<p>Can't I just use something like an antenna, transistor and some kind of crystal to send a signal that a reciever with the same type crystal can pick up and pull down a relay or something for just a split second?<p>Thanks!

It always costs more to build your own.

I have also been experimenting with a 1 bit tx/rx and although I got it to work, it's alot harder than I thought to get any dependable range.

The basic idea is an L\C tank driving a transistor or two for power output.
For the receiver its about the same, an L\C tank tuned to the transmitter, driving an amp.
I have resorted to an ultra cheap R\C car setup hack. Trust me the $8.50 was way worth it.

If battery life is important, and if you must build your own, an RF detector, turning on a LM556 timer to chirp every 5-10 sec's., with power turned on by the detector ckt. I've seen common-base BJT ( in @ emitter ), and JFET circuits which are OFF until they receive input. This will bring your quescient current to near zero. The JFET is better, because it needs less current to turn on. So, when a signal is received at the tuned freq., the 556 receives power, and starts chirping. A large cap, or using a 558 will set duration of 'ON' time.

First, my p71, I have the older version of that that they discontinued. But, I would like to make true wireless not infrared where the remote has to be aiming at it. But I guess that would be much easier to use. does anybody know the range of this? I guess I could use an infrared emitter from an old 1-4-all remote that broke, and I have either an infrared reciever unit or an infrated phototransistor.<p>Second, Paul, thanks for the links and no_vice, thanks for the info about battery life. When I am not using it it will be turned off.<p>

I just found a great deal on a wireless doorbell with a 200 foot range at menards for 8.00.
It comes with a transmitter battery and the lit says it should last for up to 2 years. Pin 12 of the 4069 puts out a pulse to trigger a flip flop or whatever. Excellent all around hackable cheapie.
