i was wanting to know if el backlight work by basically on the same principle as led backlighting minus all the technical application that involved with the inverter, like with led backlights which can be turned on by simplying applying the supply voltage and current limiting resistor. will simply applying the proper supply voltage to +el pos. and -el gnd enable the el strip to light. im using a lcd that has el backlighting when i apply +5volts and gnd, the display doesnt light when i apply +12 volts and gnd, still no backlight.

EL panels will work off of direct 120v AC
or use a micro inverter of 120v to light them
inverter = 5v or 12v in and 120v or so out AC
you can buy then cheap from ALL-TRONICS
i hear you can even cut the panels into certain shapes also and they will still light...
EL panels are like a luminicent capicitor i am told.. but either way they operate off of simple 120V AC good luck..and if you use direct AC rather than a inverter..beware of shock hazards !
