I didn't find any germanum transistors at all in a quick look at the Mouser and Jameco catalogs. A Google search seems like your best bet.

Perhaps if you told us your application...<p>If the HEP230/NTE104 is a Ge TO3, you are not going to find an equivalent in a TO92.

I have an old catalog that crosses the HEP230 to an ECG104. If I remember correctly, NTE bought the ECG line, so the NTE104 is probably the same.<p>The ECG104 is described as a TO-3 transistor.

Typical current gain=90<p>This is a fairly typical power transistor of its type. The current gain may be a little higher than most similar devices. The basic problem is that the market for these dried up around 1975 or so.<p>If you are building a new unit, I would suggest modifying the circuit to use a silicon PNP in a TO-220 case.<p>For replacement use, you may have to take whatever you can find. There was a company called Germanium Power Devices that made germanium power transistors fairly recently, but they were probably expensive, and may not be in business anymore.<p>You might find a similar transistor used as the power stage on an old junked auto radio. These were often house numbered, but they might work.

The hep 230 was changed to g6003 when they changed their numbering.I have at least one maybe more in my old new stock, If you need it send me your address and I will send you one for just the cost of postage. My email is- kershank @ aol.com.
