TV Remote Setup Codes: NEED HELP!!!

Post by WildBoar »

I've probably purchased a dozen (or more)
universal TV Remotes. They usually take
a few minutes to punch-in the codes and
then you're all set to go.<p>I purchased a remote for a Philips/Magnavox
kitchen island style TV. It's sold in every
Walmark, Kmart, etc. It's a 9 inch color
model (PRO920X101), with a white cabinet.
Typically, it's hung under kitchen island
cabinets or used on a small stand in a
bedroom.<p>The remote that came with the unit still works,
but I had to spend some time cleaning a lot of
gunk off of it, so I figured it was a smart
idea to preserve the original and use a
universal instead.<p>So far, I've tried a GE and One For All
remote. First, I tried all the codes they
provided with the remote. When that didn't
work I tried the "search" feature that came
with each unit. Essentially, you press a couple
of switches over and over and OVER, until
you bring up the correct code. It didn't
work with the GE or One For All remote.<p>I remember reading an article in an electronics
magazine, (maybe Nuts & Volts, Popular or
Radio Electronics, etc.) about uncovering
your remote's setup code. Are any of these
documents on the web?<p>Any help would be appreciated!!<p>WildBoar

The original isn't worth preserving at all,, It's practically worthless... So return those universals, And enjoy.<p>PS: Magnavox has several, several "Codes"<p>
Also, Does anyone remember the ones which would "learn" from another remote?
Those were nice

Hi there,<p>It's not as hard as it sounds to go through
every code (1000 codes). I've done it in
less then an hour with my one for all.
I wanted to find the codes for my vcr
and ended up finding functions that werent
even documented.<p>If you dont want to do all 1000 in one sitting,
do 200 per day or something. At the end of
the week, you'll know all the codes that work
with your tv set including ones that do other
things besides turn on and off (have the set
turned on first while you try the codes).<p>Good luck,
Al

The remote that came with the unit still works,<p>
Wiiillld Boar !
G.E. was the forerunner of the under the counter
Space Saver type of TV. So to not have extensive
developmental involvement Phillips may be second
sourcing their unit and marking it as theirs. So
run thru all of the RCA/GE codes also....or to
nail it, look on the back of the set labelling and get us the FCC's I.D. number so we can see
who thereal manufacturer of the unit actually is..<p>73's de Edd

I sell Magnavox tvs and I own one of the sets you describe here. The remote for this set won't work with my other Magnavox sets so that means is was built by someone else and labelled as Magnavox.<p>It could be so obscure a set that the codes aren't programmed into those remotes. Go to Menard's and buy a Magnavox remote, they'll be more likely to have the right codes for your set. I can tell you that they won't be the first ones listed in the magnavox tv section even there. Thanks--Mike.

I keep my kitchen remote in a baggie so it doesn't get gooey when I'm eating pancakes and watching tv. You need the original remote to set the clock and adjust the preference controls--the universal remotes won't do those. Thanks--Mike.
