does anyone share my amazement...

Post by philba »

...or perhaps dismay that the N&V home page has had the following wording for friggin months:
"Getting Started in Electrconics"
I think this has been pointed out to them several times. You'd think they should be able to spell the word electronics correctly. Its like all the lights are on but there's no one home...

Spalling is like a shiny coin, to a crow, because they get distracted easily.

Maybe I'm being picky but I would think that an outfit in the publishing business would be more concerned about correct spelling than the average outfit. But hey, I'm just funny that way.

Not to mention missing parts lists, wrong schematics and I love the timing diagram in this months issue ( DC Motor Speed Control) that clearly defys the authors description.

Aww, give them the benefit of the doubt. It's probably there to attract search enginge traffic. They've probably listed common mis-spellings of their target keywords. :D

Didn't I see an ad for a new Editor for Nuts and Volts?

Maybe this is one of the reasons this job is posted?

And, no Matt, it's not deliberate since it's the name of a book they are promoting... Usually the deliberate mis-spellings are in hidden text or burried elsewhere.

Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.

Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.

As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore two long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rarely ever wrong.

Eye have run this poem threw it
I am shore your pleased two no
Its letter perfect in it's weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.

I think this best describes English, from the Web,........

So what’s a few screw ups amongst friends?

“The many millions of non-native speakers of English who study the tongue as an international auxiliary language have to constantly concern themselves with the spelling of words.

After hundreds of hours of work none of them will have fully mastered the English spelling system.

When they see a new word in print they will not automatically know how to pronounce it.

All they will be able to do is make a guess or look for their dictionary or utilize their multi-media computer’s pronouncing dictionary”

From the phonetic web site, no less!

One thing I did notice is that finally the note in the upper right that used to say this was "comprised of" pages so and so has been corrected to this "comprises" pages so and so.

"Comprised of" is an incorrect form.

COmprises means essentially the same thing as includes. If you can replace comprises with includes and it sounds right, you did it right. One would never say this forum includes of pages 1 and 2.
