Servo control voltage

Does the control voltage on a servo have to be at the same level as the motor voltage? I am planning to use several different micros to provide the PWM signal for the servos-one micro is 5 volts the other is 3.3. The servo will have it's own supply at 6 volts or more. (I do not want to run the servo motor at 5 volts.) I have never seen this question addressed anywhere.

If you are using standard Radio Control type servos like those from Futaba, Hitec, Airtronics etc. it is not a good idea to exceed 6 volts without risking servo damage; even then, if you stall out the servo you could ruin it with even 4.8 volts on it if it were stalled for an appreciable time.

From what I've seen of servos (not much), they have a uC on board with TTL compatible inputs. As long as your highs are at least 2.4V and your lows are at most 0.8V you should be okay.
