jimandy, as long as you have the UPS and the monitor plugged into the same receptacle, you should be safe using a SPDT switch on the hot wire only. It'll be simple and a common 3-way toggle switch as used on a stairwell will be a good non-shorting switch for the application.<p>Still, the warning does prevail here. If some bozo wired a receptacle in the house with the hot and neutral switched, there'll be fireworks when you plug the switch box into the two separate receptacles. A big DPDT toggle switch will be non-shorting and work best of all to switch both hot and neutral across. The switches that are most commonly found available as shorting types are rotary switches. And you have to be careful of slide switches a bit, too.<p>Dean
