Timer Chip

Post by Buford »

I'm looking for a chip to implement a long-range (approximately 3 minutes to 30 minutes) interval timer function.
It should be compatible with digital logic, having an edge-triggered start pin and enable/disable input. Two modules in a single chip would be ideal.

a 556 timer chip will work, as long as it doesn't have to be too accurate

Look into the MC14541 from ON semiconductor, web page: http://www.onsemi.com/site/products/sum ... 01,00.html<p>and the data sheet:
http://www.onsemi.com/pub/Collateral/MC14541B-D.PDF<p>It's basicaly a 555 with a programmable 16 stage digital counter in the same chip.<p>Check out their web site, you can probably get them to send you a couple samples.<p>Good luck.

Someone asked about the beigebag software. While at NC State, they sold us a full blown verson for next to nothing. For the price, it is great for beginners. There are a few bugs in it now and then but I do have an older version of the software that is currently available. Try on the demo if you have never used a spice program before.

The 555/ 556 /558 timers have timing functions that will span from once every four hundred hours, all the way to 100,000 cycles per second. For the dime cost [in bulk], you cant beat it.
