Hello, I'm looking at those common Tower Pro micro servos. SG90, for example. On stepper motor controllers, you can turn off the stepper when you're done with the movement, this lowers wasted power since the stepper coils can de-energize.
That does not appear to be possible with servo motors - if they're powered, the coils of the servo are energized. They're typically powered from the Arduino itself. So to conserve power, you might need to use a relay to power off the 5V line when not in use?

No. The Arduino provides the PWM signal. Though the plug for the servo may be on the same board as the Arduino.They're typically powered from the Arduino itself.
Is anything "pushing on the mechanical load? With power off the servo can not hold a position.
When power is reapplied, the servo may jump to center till it decodes the next PWM.
Other than those 2 limitations you can turn off power to servo, just keep Arduino powered up.
