Looking for a Specific IC Embedded Systems

Post by Leo Hathaway »

I want to make a hand held device of very small dimensions, which incorporates 4 leds and a motor. I used an 8051(https://www.kynix.com/Parts/2627837/805 ... BOARD.html) to control these leds and motor and code accordingly, but as size is a constraint I can’t afford to make use of it. The IC which is really small and runs these leds and motor for the 'n' number of alarms set using a clock and also the IC should even display the clock on an lcd or an led display.

Please can someone guide me how to achieve these functionalities using a small IC (Any basic level IC which can be implemented as an smd chip in later stages).

Thank you in advance.

you want a dev board kit that supports a uController with the features you need for a given project. First step is to select a processor family with a range of chips with varying I/O, A/D and interface options but all share the same core processor and development software environment. you can read app notes, product brochures and search sites like Digikey to narrow this search. I suggest you start with Microchip and TI as both have big time support and wide product lines. Hobbyists tend to gravitate toward things like Arduino but I like to stay with a brand, the hobbyist modules are great for prototyping but not so much for miniaturization..

I have seen inexpensive Dev board kits where all the interface you need is built into a USB base board and then the uContoller part can be unplugged or snapped off and then embedded into another circuit after prototyping is complete. For a basic project an 8 or 16 bit product will probably do

from the Design link at the top, navigate toward development tools then look at the hardware kits.

search digikey for evaluation boards,

What kind of motor, there is probably a product with motor control built in depending on what kind.
