9 volt Duracell Procell

Been a big fan of Duracell for many years, but these are a disappointment. Just don't last as long in 50 mAmp application.
Going back to Energizers!
Anybody else have a review for this cell?

Looked at spec sheets for Duracell, Energizer and Panasonic.

Even on paper (well pdf by manufacturers) the Duracell wasn't rated to last as long.

Note - the 20 hour rate for Energizer and Panasonic looked like around 26mA. So, your 50mA load is on the heavy side for a 9V battery. Ever consider six AAs, or AAAs, in series? Would give a LOT longer life.

I don't buy Duracell or Energizer batteries any more.

Because after looking at Consumer Reports Battery Reviews.
There was only about a 1% to 2% difference in longevity between them, and other lower priced alkaline batteries.

But dyarker is right.

If space isn't an issue.
Using a bunch of AA or AAA batteries instead of a single 9V,
would be better for a circuit that has a heavy current draw.

Space is an issue in this application.
If not Duracell or Energizer, what is recommended for a better alkaline 9 volt? (Lithium disposables too expensive)

You could try using button batteries {LR44} in making a 9V pack.

They are fairly cheap.
Card of 10 sells for around $2 or less.
Check out the Dollar Stores, and thrift stores.

But after crunching the numbers of amp hours for a 9V pack made of LR44's Vs a 9V Transistor battery.
They come out about the same, or a little bit higher.

Thou.......

If you put two LR44 9V packs in parallel, that might work out better. :?

Looks like LR44's have 150 maHr rating- even less than the ProCell.
Two parallel banks of them (to make a 9 volt) would outlast the ProCell, but oh, the hassle. :razz:

9V applications are a red flag for me. With the exception of smoke detectors, most things that use them are old power hogging circuits especially transmitters for toys that use analog designs. For example one toy RC car I got my nephew has digital motors in the car and the 4AAs are lasting forever, the hand held transmitter barely lasts 1 hour before the 9V is too dead to transmit, even its LED goes dim. Lazy designer didn't upgrade the transmitter. Most redesigned circuits will run at lower voltage and usually with AA or AAA the preferred cell for most consumer apps since more development went into these than the other sizes. Another toy has a Bluetooth controller and it is lasting a long time with 2AAA inside.

I agree Li disposables are not a good choice either. Again, better for smoke detectors where you need super long life is a very low current app, they are not that good for high current.
