Hi all.
Anyone with a spinning mirror assembly for sale, trade, loan, whatever ?
They usually reside in the guts of point of sale scanners and printers, look like

I do not know what brand this may be ----> http://c8.alamy.com/comp/CC07HK/polygon ... CC07HK.jpg
Or, a cube mirror out of whatever ?
Miguel

That second pic looks more like the scanner head assembly for the Laser Printer.
HSC Electronic Supply has Bar Code Scanners.
http://www.halted.com/commerce/ccp23007 ... -22283.htm
I saw one of the surplus places had junked Check out Scanners.
I just can't remember which one it was.
You might just try doing a Google Search.
But if you have a Model, or part number to work with, that would help.

Miguel,
I have seen many polygon mirror motors on eBay for not too much. I recently purchased a 15000 RPM 10-sided printer scanner assembly on eBay for a speed-of-light experiment.
Might I ask what you are planning to do with the polygon mirror?
Thanks.
Dave

Re: Wanted : polygon mirror out of scanner / printer...
Thanks, fellows.
The ones at Ebay are mostly thin under 3mm, the one in the first sample link is much taller like 15+mm; convenient to shine a 'line' laser beam to sweep a target.
And the wrong Ebay ones are not junk priced. Prefer to buy a defunct scanner for $5 and canibalize as done before. Sadly, I do not reside in Silicon valley any more, with dozens of stores to pick the weirdest items. Will try my luck at local yard sales if you do not find one behind the spider webs...
That was a nice cheap link, JTzap ! Been maaaany times at the HSC Santa Clara store, always wearing a bib. I do not need it to read barcodes, just to project a moving line.

Hmmmm.............
Where's your closest Best Buy?
Or Electronic Recycling Center?
You might find a scraped Laser Printer there, that you can get the scanner motor, with the mirror head on it.
Are you trying to do something like an X & Y access projector?
Similar to the Ramsey Laser Light Show Kit? http://www.allspectrum.com/ramsey/LLS1/LLS1.pdf

Nearest BestBuy about 25 miles. Nearest electronics recycler... unknown. Wish I knew.
There is a booth in a flea market 25 miles away with piles of printers... If I knew which ones have the tall mirror, would get one next trip there...
No X/Y, no light show. Just a laser line sweeping the ground.

Hmmmmm..........
So basically your looking for a Laser Level.
It is available through Amazon.

Nnnnnope.
The line should move. I do not think levels have a turning mirror; the laser itself outputs a line.

Re: Wanted : polygon mirror out of scanner / printer...
The Laser Level uses a very simple Galvanometer, or Scanning Mirror to make the line.
Here are some very small ones.
I use to make my own scanning mirrors from old volt meters, for doing laser light shows.
Here's the one that is similar to what I had used.
By sending slow square, or sign wave to the scanning mirror.
It would produce a line.
Here is a Laser Level clearly painting a red Line.

A galvanometer could work. Are those from a vendor ?
Fed by a triangle wave, to produce something like this (same action without the hand !) repeatedly.
Sweep, off, return, on, sweep again, off, return, on, sweep again, off, return...
----> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrIyB_27X6A
Mounting a mirror on a discarded CD lens carrier and feeding the _/|_/|_/|_/|_/|_/| waveform has to work.

Will see what is behind my spider webs

Those small scanning mirrors are from http://www.eopc.com/
Though you can get analog meters From Alltronics.

Well, glad to give you some idea's.

Hey, what do I know?
Re: Wanted : polygon mirror out of scanner / printer...
are you sure those laser levels are using a scanning laser with mirror. I'm pretty sure the one I have is all optics. The coherent light emitted by a laser diode usually comes out in a cone (not a beam) up to 30 degrees and requires a collimator or other optics to shape it into a beam. In this case it would not be hard to mask the cone into a line and that would be far cheaper and durable.

I went out to the Edmund Optical Site, and came across these lenses.
