X-10 modules - homepower question

Post by dacflyer »

i have some home power x-10 modules and a i have 2 of the x-10 flood lights.
such as this one.. ------> http://www.smarthome.com/4080XT/X10-PR5 ... hts/p.aspx
does anyone know of other modules that will send a signal to another module ?
i liked this light, because i could set it to turn on a lamp module in the house when it detected something outside.
i am looking for something motion detected or something that can accept a input signal of some sort..
i am wanting to use it for better security in my yard.. people are cutting thru my yard, and i want to be able to detect them.
i already have power where i need it, but i need some way to be alerted without running any extra wires.
with the x10, it sends signals thru the house wire..

I don't understand what you're asking dacflyer- if those lights send a signal throughout the house turning on other lights, or sounding chimes, what more do you need? :???:

how about one that aims, then shoots? ha.. I have a light out back that makes a sound in the house when the deer come up to eat their apples.. or someone passes by it.. also have the X-10 black one that does the turn on feature..

sorry if i did not explain well..
i think i found what i was looking for..
a x-10 module (eagle eye ) that is a wireless motion detector ( no lights ) it sends a signal to another x-10
(set up on same codes ) that module then can alert me with a chime or turn on another x-10
such as a lamp module... that would let me know if that area was being entered.

i used to have the x-10 motion sensor flood light, they do not make them no more, and they did seem to have issues over time. but that unit used to turn on it's floodlights as well as it could trigger other x-10 units as well, when it sensed motion.

x-10 made a lot of neat stuff all sorts of modules / controllers etc

better under stood now ? :D

well i got my motion sensors in. the sensor is quite sensitive, i had a receiver it works well so far..
i have all of them set to the same channel of the receiver. when triggered, it comes on for about 1 min.
then goes back off. takes 2 AAA batteries, not sure of the life of them yet.

well i played with the sensors this weekend..very disappointed in their range ( very short )
they seem not to work anything past 25ft
i have the receiver in my bathroom, and the sensor is in my shop.. it does not reach it at all. and it is about 25' or so..
so that is useless..

so my next idea is..... ( comes from a mix of haunted houses and the scarecrow sprinkler )
i plan now to use in my shop.. a electric air valve connected to a LV motion detector, connected to my compressor,
so when it detects something the loud blast of air (150 PSI), that should scare the SH*T out of someone..
i'll have a timer on it also so that it will stay on for about 30 seconds...enough time that the compressor will come on also making more noise..
hows that sound ?? i think it would scare away any burglar that tries to go in my shop.

i remember in the haunted houses, you walk down a dark hallway. and suddenly you get blasted with a airhose as you walk past a sensor... loved to see the girls jump and run when blasted with air... was so funny..lol

Dac,

If you're looking for a more sensitive receiver for the X10 Motion sensors try:

http://wgldesigns.com/v572.html

These receivers have amazing sensitivity.
The version above uses a Powerline Interface to re-transmit the X10 signal on the powerline.
They also have versions that spit ASCII code out an RS232 port.

Hope this helps.

i discovered better,, i found out that i can have the receiver in my shop..with the sensor,,and it will transmit thru the wiring to another X10 module set on same code..
i thought before that the receiver would receive only..did not know that it would pass it on to other x10's
so that is working like i want it to now..

but i am still thinking of the air hose noise maker to startle anyone that is still brave enough to walk in...

Dac, add a few paintballs into that compressed air thing ya got going and it will be easier to identify your trespassers later.

would be a good idea, but hard to aim...and what if i go in and forget to turn it off before i go in.. owch.
