The 'Magic Switchbox' has been around for some time and it relies on a simple visual image with a complex core. There is much on-line about its 'magic.

But, I recently found this one and it is different and no information has been found about it's 'magic'

The floor is open for speculation...

Hi Externet,
In a general sense, all these illusions, simply cannot work as they would want you to believe they are wired. There must be some trickery and clever building, as in all illusions, to hide the 'magic'.
I have seen that model and it looks like a spin-off design from the first one I referenced. Since the plastic model uses low current LEDs, it is possible that the wire you see is really just a sleeve. These would easily hide fine magnet or litz wire fished inside so you can't see the needed switch and LED wires! Notice the globs of hot glue, they may hide the truth. The battery holder also looks a bit deep, like maybe a 8-AA (12 volt) holder with the bottom cleaned out to hide the 'magic' plus a few AAA or coin cells for the no battery effect. Also at the end, with the no battery illusion, he turned on only one LED at a time..Hummm Since he did not allow anyone to change the LEDs or switch caps, It could be a state machine, in that there are preset sequences. I think the video was 1,2,3,4 - 3,4,1,2 - 2,3,4,1 - 1,2,3,4 and these states were the script that the demonstrator used.
The second unit I referenced uses the rings and pegs to control the illusion, which is a completely different concept...
At first I thought possibly magnets and reed switches but the video is not clear enough to see any hidden circuitry.
And no, I don't buy into it being 'real magic' or RFID technology......
Thanks for the post and maybe we will let the magic out!

Re: Magic Switch Box(board)!
Hi Len.
I will tell you this:
The LEDs are perfectly normal and any LED you supply can be used,
the switches are perfectly normal,
the switch cams are plastic and no magnets or sensors are in them,
the LED holders are perfectly normal with no sensors,
there are no diodes, capacitors or other electronic modifications of the LEDs/switches
.... X snip X

Hi Externet,
The devil is in the details!
Len
If that was meant to be a tease, it didn't work. I completely agree to your statement but there is way more to it than the common hardware that meets the eye. All of the similar designs use a micro, and the circuitry and code is readily available.Externet wrote:there are no diodes, capacitors or other electronic modifications of the LEDs/switches

Re: Magic Switch Box(board)!
i had made something like this many years ago.. it was called the "NOT SO SERIOUS CIRCUIT"
it was only 2 switches and 2 bulbs all wired in series and connected to 120vac
which ever way you moved the bulbs, sw1 controlled bulb 1 & sw2 controlled bulb 2 and i had it mounted in a clear plastic box, so you could see that everything was wired in series..
here is a link from a post a few years back..
scroll down and you will see how to make your own..
http://forum.nutsvolts.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=16639
again its for 2 switches and 2 lamps.. i think for anything more complicated
it will need a micro..
as for the one i saw in the video link. i think the switch color caps play a part in the illusion, i noticed that when a cap is slipped on, it made a click sound as if a magnet was was involved.. Hmmmm
either way it cannot be explained logically...but the one in the link above can be explained logically.

Ahhh....
Did you notice the slow moving electrons. Switch on.........lamp on!
The others do not have this delay. I guess maybe Microsoft wrote the code!!!
And so what about the other one in my first post http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9ShZQepZ0o
How about some brainstorming that wouldn't cost the farm to buy one? I'm sure that the collective smarts here can conjure up a solution
