AC current sense coils...

Post by Externet »

Hi. Passing a current carrying wire trough them, for the same number of turns, do the three air cored coils yield the same voltage for a given current ?

most current transformers that i have seen have a iron core....and are a fixed ratio...EX 100/5.. 100 amps through 5 amps on secondary....if you only have 25 amps and you want more on secondary place more than one turn through the coil 4 turns would give you full scale 5 amps on secondary...some of these transformers have more than 1 secondary ...one for current and the other a voltage common ones are 5 volt and 5 amp secondary....common one are only good for 50 hz to 400 hz...others are for higher frequency...the original use for these were to drive a 5 amp full scale current meter..also used for relay with matching coil ratings...these transformers have a va rating on them that lets you know how much power they have to drive other items...these can be burdened with a resistor across the secondary to develop a voltage drop for a scope etc etc . this is your first diagram
