ya, i remember a lot of them RCA CTC-series tv's were notorious for eprom failures and usually caused by bad solider joints around the tuner..the tv would go nuts and have a mind of its own.

i made a lot of money on them sets.. luckily resolidering the tuner casing to the board fixed most of the problems.

i have checked all the caps, they are within tolerance.. none were bad enough to stop the unit from starting up.

if it is the eprom for this set, then that should be covered in the kit. it said it comes with 7 parts, but it did not say which parts.

here is the link to the kit i ordered

UPDATE... well i got the repair kit in, and it was all for not..Grrrr the kit came with 5 smt regulators and 2 fuzes.
i had high hopes.. i installed everything except for the fuzes ( they were not blown )
after all was done i fired up the tv, and no changes, everything was the same ARGGGHHHHHH ! ! ! !
i recontacted the guy on ebay and told him my delema, and he asked me to send him voltage reading from each regulator.
he informs me later that 2 of the regulators had low to no input, and he said this was related to data bus control, and informed me that the EEPROM was bad and that one is not available for this tv, my only option was to find another main board.. so now i have to search ebay again, i'll have about 80.00 or so invested in this thing by the time i get it going again.. i will not make much of a profit, but it will be a learning experience..

I hate to say it but you're probably SOL. I've had the uhhh! pleasure of working on a few VISIO and have yet to fix one. One was less than a year old and I could never get the power supply to stay up long enough to see what else I was missing. I tried changing a few parts but had no luck fixing the units. I'm not sure why but schematics are almost impossible to find. I've even resulted to e-bay for some parts and still no fixes. There has to be a troubleshooting tree from Sony that would help but I've yet to find it. If you do find a source for schematics please post it. I'm REALLY interested to know if the "repair kit" fixes the issue.

the repair kit only comes with 5 regulators and 2 fuzes. all are SMT
the regulator kit has all the same regulators. ( AM1117 ) they goto U2,U4,U5,U8,U9 on the main board.
this is the kit i ordered... http://www.ebay.com/itm/140824664232?ss ... 1497.l2649

1st you need to check the reading of the regulators.. if you want the readings i have, i could post them.

but, i was basically told this..

U5 and U8 output voltages are low and these voltages are for address lines. Those lines go to EEPROM memory chip and main CPU.
Based on that most likely problem with your board is bad EEPROM.
Unfortunately EEPROM is not available for this model.

ya, i found it today also, but i am not interested in it at 28.00, a few bucks more and
i can buy a known good board.
i talked to the guy SHOPJIMMY and he said likely from what i described to him, he does not think it is a eeprom issue. so i think i will go for the whole board.. then once it is working, i will retry the original PS board, and if it test good, then i'll resell it on ebay, recoop some money,,

Yeah,

At that price.
I would just opt for getting the rebuilt/new Main board myself.

On the Used Power Supply & Inverter Board you got.
Was this from the SHOPJIMMY guy?
Or some place reparable that has at least a 30 day return policy?

sad news. main board did not fix the problem...
i did some more testing. come to find out the screen is bad..not broke, but bad.
the main board was bad too before, but so is the screen.
i have lost my A** on this set.. i'll try to recover my cost be relisting the boards on ebay..
in all my years of working on screens, i have never seen one that was bad.
the electronics internal to the screen is bad..
with the new board, the ccfl still did not turn on or light up and there was still no sound or anything.
if i unplug the screen, the back light ccfl will come on..but that's all.
it sux that there is no easier way to test these units before comitting to buying boards

lesson learned.. :o(

That stinks.

I'm assuming you got stuck with the set?

If so.....
Time to play detective with the driver board for the LCD display.
First off, check the connectors to the board.
Then start looking at the PCB itself.
Check for hair line cracks, or lifted IC's on the PCB that maybe are the problem.
Then look at the LCD panel for cracks.

You could try re-flowing the solder with a Hot Air Station, and see if that gets it working.
But if the LCD panel has cracks......
Time to just scrap out the set. :x

Thou......
There are outfits that do LCD panel repair.

all the panels electronics are internal..no access, just a ribbon connector..
and the panel is not serviceable.
i told customer to come get it. and i had to give 1/2 of their 75.00 deposit back.
i got lucky, i can send the main board back. so that's a few bucks back.
i never had a bad screen that did nothing.. hell even a broke screen shows something..lol
