Store theft alarm question

Post by Ken1 » Mon Apr 22, 2013 10:55 am

Hi, Recently I bought an inkjet cartridge at The Real Canadian Superstore. At the checkout the clerk cancelled the security tag by sliding the cartridge over the cancelling device on the checkout counter. The cancelling device gave off a sound indicating the security tag was cancelled. I paid for the cartridge and after the clerk bagged it and gave me my receipt I placed the cartridge in my pocket and exited the electronics section (which has a theft alarm) without incident. I also exited the store without incident (the store also has a theft alarm at the exit doors). An hour later I entered Wal-Mart with the cartridge still in my pocket and upon entering the store I triggered the theft alarm. Wal-Mart does sell this same make and model of cartridge. Can someone explain this?

It sounds like the security tag on the package wasn't demagnetized completely.
Thus, the reason the security alarm in Walmart went off.

Here's the Wikipedia page on Security Tags.

And /or maybe the The Real Canadian Superstore exit sensors were not working properly!
