Possibly a victim of the phase out of incandescent bulbs. Larger Wattage bulbs 75W and 100W are already phased out. Yes, you can still find them but these are the left in stock. I think 100W bulbs were phased out in 2012 and the 75W in January 2013. If you still own them or had them in a warehouse you can sell them. Once they are gone that's it. CFL or LED. Unless you want to buy 75W and 100W "heaters". Although I think that is still limited to Germany.
No trees were harmed in the creation of this message. But billions of electrons, photons, and electromagnetic waves were terribly inconvenienced!

I'm not so sure its all due to phase out of incandescents. That's a compact bulb and luminaries that it fits in would likely be limited by the amount of heat they can handle. Check the sticker inside your lamp, the 100W may never have been intended to go there. The various bulb shapes depend very much on the fixture they go in, the orientation of that fixture and where it is installed (its not all cosmetic or design competition). Just like there are different plug styles so we don't get 120V and 220V or 10A and 20A cordsets mixed up, such is the selection of lightbulbs. Manufacturers intentionally select a particular bulb style in part to limit the max (heat) power a consumer can put in a liminary and still maintain UL rated safety. (in addition to light pattern and intensity and color etc)

Its very common for people to put overly hot bulbs in cieling fixtures. Especially if it is the very common bulb style. New fixtures have a thermostat to kill the light if it gets too hot but old fixtures may not. All this existed as a problem before energy concerns reduced wattage of the incandescents.

AFAIK, all bulb styles will continue to be manufactured although is adjusted wattage levels in some cases and in lower volumes (until the manufacturers decide its not profitable anymore). What's being phased out is the manufacture of luminaries that use these bulbs and especially permits from cities to allow their installation in new homes and remodels.
