The keyfinder seems the best choice for the task. Thanks, John.

A 1 MHz oscillator does not work. A 24 MHz in my parts bin does, with my portable shorwave receiver. But cells die fast in tests.

A flashing led attached to her back would allow me to find her but only at nights. A couple of coin cells could be made to last with one of those circuits that briefly pulse. Guys, I need your input to other options.

Here's a sample key finder. They make many types, this is just a "proof of consept". This particular model has a claimed range of 300 feet. $30.
