i am a fisherman with laptop
is there something available to connect my computer
to my dept sensor and run my chart program at the same time

Only if the depth sounder has been designed that way from the beginning. Many of these are self contained and have no PC interface. What model do you have? Is there any sort of plug on it aside from a power jack and place to connect the sensor?
Minimally, a serial connection uses 3 or 4 wires. A charting program would probably also need input from a GPS reciever as well.
