Servo control help

Hi,
I am trying my first project where i intend to control a couple of RC servos using matlab and an RC servo controller IC (via serial port).

I have never done any of this and from reading the manual on the servo controller it seems i just need to send it binary strings through the serial port which seems possible after some searching.

Does anyone know of any manuals/guides/resources/wiki that could help or point me in the right direction of some good online resources etc.
there does not seem to be very much around from what i have found on google and i cant seem to find any ebooks or books either

What is the number of the IC? If it is FT639 this might help.

All present day servos require a positive going pulse of 1.5 +-0.5 milliseconds duration every 20 to 30 milliseconds. A 1 millisecond wide pulse drives it to one extreme and a 2 millisecond pulse drives it to the other extreme, distance being proportional to the width of the pulse.
