HAY FOLKS HERE IS A SIX MILLION DOLLAR DUM QUESTION/PROBLEM
--- 1.) WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STANDARD DOUBLE POLE/ DOUBLE THROW SW AND THE SWITCHES USE LIKE THE ONCE FOR SWITCHING FROM TV CABLE INPUT TO GAME INPUT OTHER THEN THE FACT THAT THE SW HAS CABLE CONNECTORS AND A SLIDE SW ON IT ??
--- 2. HERE IS WHAT I AM NEEDING;
------- I NEED TO BE ABLE TO SWITCH THE INPUT AND OUTPUTS TO TWO SEPRATE VCRS VIA STANDARD TV CABLE CONNECTION WHICH MEANS THE ANT INPUT AND THE TV OUTPUT WILL ALSO CHANGES. I WANT TO DO IT WITH ONE SWITCH.
------- IT MAY SOUND A BIT NUTTY BUT I HAVE ME REASONS.
CONNECTION SET LOOKS LIKE THIS;
SET UP (1) VCR 1 INPUT....ANT SIG. IN, OUTPUT ..TO.. INPUT VCR 2, VCR 2 OUTPUT TO TV
SET UP (2) VCR 2 INPUT...ANT SIG IN, OUTPUT..TO..INPUT VCR 1, VCR 1 OUTPUT TO TV
I THOUGHT OF USING SMETHING LIKE A SINGLE POLE DOUBLE THROW SW. BUT THEN I FORGOT ABOUT THE COAXIAL CABLE PART.
I TRIED TO FOUND A SW ALREADY MADE UP FOR IT BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR.
GOT ANY IDEAS.

CABLE TV/VCR VIDEO SWITCHING OR SWITCH
Greetings and Salutations to all !!!
Re: CABLE TV/VCR VIDEO SWITCHING OR SWITCH
Hi,
You can probably do this with a switch if you use very short connections to the switch from the
coax cables. They do make switches like this and they call them A/B switches.

It looks like you have a job for a 3 pole 2 position rotary switch. A 3 pole double throw toggle also can be used but may be more difficult to find.
Here's a quick drawing to show typical connections...

Re: CABLE TV/VCR VIDEO SWITCHING OR SWITCH
Thank you, that do sound like what I am looking for, now to found a rotary sw. , humm ... i am assuming that tieing the coxail part of the cable wire is common that it should not hurt to make them all common to each other, what do you think OK?? It should not be a problem with cable being short, I am putting cable connector on it so I can mount it close.

No, connecting the shields together should not be a problem, n fact most coaxial switches use a metal housing and the connectors are all mounted to the metal can. Try Mouser for switches, some are just a few dollars so probably shipping is more than the switch cost.

Yes, make sure you use an all metal enclosure to shield the switch. If you don't, you won't be happy with that setup.Lenp wrote:No, connecting the shields together should not be a problem, in fact most coaxial switches use a metal housing and the connectors are all mounted to the metal can.

Re: CABLE TV/VCR VIDEO SWITCHING OR SWITCH
Hello guys, I found a place near here that might have my sw., mouser I nead to get there catalog anyway I have some up come project to finish. I found a metal outdoor power enclosure with seal top panel, that should do the trick with plenty of room for connectors and switch.
I'll keep you inform of how it works out Many Thanks.

Use a CD4053 integrated circuit, will even give a spare set of contacts. It is a 3P2T device
