Right Angle Power Cord Exact Dimensions

Post by MrAl »

Hello there,

I need the dimensions of one of those right angle power cords, the type that could plug into a computer
power supply and instead of sticking right out from the case it angles 90 degrees so the cord runs
parallel to the back of the case rather than sticking out a bit.
The type of connector is known as "IEC 320-C13".

The dimension i need is the connector length that plugs into the computer power supply power socket.
That is, the length of that part that fits into the socket plus the length of the part that does not
fit into the socket.

If someone has one and can measure it that would be nice...thanks. Accuracy to the nearest 1/16 inch
should be good enough.

Here's a rough drawing showing the connector with the wire and the dimension i need...

Code: Select all

         LENGTH
   <---------------------->

    ----------------------

   | | (this end plugs into the PC power supply power socket)

    ----------------------

     | | (this is the 120vac wire)

       *
       *
(goes to 120vac wall socket plug)

Hi Ya MrAl

I come up with the end that plugs into the PSU (before the right angle) being about 1.636" and after the 90 degree turn about 1.900 into and of strain relief area befor just the cord. This is with an AWG 16 cable. I would venture a guess that these dimnensions could vary with the exception obviously of where it plugs into the device it is powering. Anyway, that is what I got off one lying here on my desk with my handy dandy calipers.

If this is a part you are considering purchasing, Mouser carrys data sheets on all their items. Comes in very handy for me when laying out physical dimensions for an upcoming project.

Hello again,

You know what else, i wonder if there is a 'right' and 'left' style out there too.

Ron:
Oh ok that sounds like it will work then. I need something that allows a device to stand on
the back end while making measurements. The kind that stick straight out do not allow that
because they would bend too sharply.

Robert:
Well, most of the data sheets i have seen so far except for Miguel's link have shown only
the length of the cable and that's it. That's why i started this thread, because every
data sheet had shown only the length of the cable.

Miguel:
Oh yes, ok, that looks good. I'll have to see if i can find that brand though for a
reasonable price...would be nice.

Qual has the best selection I know of. Although their prices may not be the lowest, you will be able to find the specs and answers you want there

Hello again,

Well, someone here was nice enough to send two of them to me via regular mail and they were the angle type that angle off to the left. It turns out that these were too big also, because they stick out too far too.
I ended up buying one of the type that angle 'down' rather than to the left or right, and those stick out less than one inch.

Funny though, the next day i was going through some stuff and found a cord with that very same end on it!
Too bad i didnt find that sooner i would have saved over four dollars
