Hi there,
I bought this pack of cable ties about 6 months ago at Ace Hardware. I used only a few in
limited applications, then yesterday i noticed that they break very very easy (hardly any force
at all) when you make the diameter small as when say tying two 22 gauge wires together.
They break right at the point shown with the green arrow, near the head.
You can gently fold one in this area and they break immediately.
This is the first time i have ever seen a tie break this easy, usually they bend.
I have used small cable ties like this for years and so this is very strange.
Any ideas what might be wrong?
Here's one broken:

Hi Al.
Yes, those are not-nylon chinese garbage made of recycled Saran wrap, bottle caps, monitor cases, and whatever you imagine and not.

Yeah,
That's about the gist of it.
Thou, I've had them snap if they were to old.
They got brittle and snapped like dried twigs.
I love the fact that it states on the package it is good up to temperature of 85c.
Only it isn't UV resistant.
Thus, I've had ties snap in a month or two that I used to strap down outside antenna cable.
You might as well get some coated twine, or twist-ties to use.
If your going to be tying up outside wiring, or tubing.

I am an electrician & we use zillions of tie-wraps (zap-straps)
Your local electrical supplier will stock quality tie-wraps in all sizes, both UV rated & non-UV rated.
The clear ones are fine for indoor stuff.
The black ones are UV rated, wide temperature rated, and can be expensive.

Hi there,
Thanks for the tip.
I have some large black ones that are quite nice as they have a 'bolt hole' molded right into the tie wrap.
You can bolt the tie wrap to a chassis with that hole. They were a bit high priced yes. They are also
rather large and i like to use the smaller ones usually and save them for the bigger jobs.

If you don't like the cheap cable ties use a better brand.
Panduit comes to mind, others that are marked as nylon are usually good.
Some brands are UV resistant, are usually black, and labeled as UV resistant.
Do use a tie wrap tool, adjusted for best tension, it's easy too over tension.
Nylon does stretch.
