Hi all. With doubts on appending to the previous "static electricity" post, decided to open a new thead.
There is some activity trying to gather power to trickle charge cell phones in this sort of way, and now a new approach has been published:

I don't understand how harvesting power off of high voltage lines could be considered illegal because most people would only get enough to charge up a cell phone with that idea. The idea I had was to combine chemicals like the chemicals in solar chargers only instead of converting sunlight into electricity it converts the high voltage into electricity. This is for experiments like turning on a light bulb by holding it close to the plasma spark. Just an idea.
