About Radio Shack
Yup, my finger prints were all over several RS stores.I got friendly with most managers and would buy boxes of returned merchandise.
In those days, the profit margin included DOA items, so the stores took a loss. I would buy the whole box for a very negotiated price.

Most of the items were still in boxes, and the repairs were often simple or sloppy assembly. The telephones were notorious for bad soldering.
Once I got a ton of the RS Fireman Hats, with the siren! Once fixed, to the chagrin of my neighbors, my kid's and all their friends got them.

I also got a full case of stereo headsets; their 'pro' line over the ear model. They were stereo headsets, the box said so and they had three wire cables, but with 2 conductor plugs! They may have been destined to be mono, for communications radios, but they were all marked 'Stereo' .
RS corporate told the stores to dump them. I got them, and the stereo plugs from the store, rewired and sold all of them at a great price and better profit.

Finally it all stopped. It seems there was team of 'buyers' that were going around buying the same junk stuff, but returning it to stores for refunds. They would buy one and then return the broken one. No box, no problem just swap the bad item into the new box. I was told corporate gathered all the 'junk' and warehoused it until it was no longer available or sold at retail stores, then it went out to bid.

I still have odd bits here and there, like 7400 and 4000 series chips, which are not door busters today!

End of story

Ah, Len. The good old days. I miss them.

And for those who were looking for Adventure, it's online. The original Crowther and Woods version (1976) with source code, browser version and more. If you are interested, PM me for the link. With all the spam we've been getting, I don't want to give them anything to point to, if you know what I mean.

Lenp >> same here.. most of the returned stuff i'd get for a good price, take it home repair it, then haul it out to the flea market and did pretty well for several years, til the same thing happened.. they weren't allowed to sell me stuff any more.. What a bummer..it helped me pay my rent.
Luckily I still fixed and sold lawn mowers as well.. it kept me afloat for a long time.
And as for finger prints...lol... If the store were ever robbed, they'd have not much luck to find anyones but mine..I had my fingers on anything i could grab. checking it out.. at times i knew more about an item than the clerk did..
They sure are missed.

Same here. I often times knew where the stock was on the floor better than the employees. Way too much time spent there. At least I was off the streets and out of trouble.

Yup, Same here, I can totally relate..
many of the employees there were almost like family, sometimes they'd run me off..
and other times they liked that i was there to offer advice to a customer.

Well now, that's interesting. Nothing on my end I can see that would have done that.

Hmmmm...........

I'd do a malware scan on your computer Dacflyer.

I had a screen pop up in my browser, saying that my FireFox needed to be updated to view a site page, take this link to update.
I checked my FireFox, and it was already at the most current version.
I did a check for malware, and found a small script that had been inserted into some of my FireFox Bookmarks.
So, every time I used that Bookmark, I'd get that message.
I ended up erasing a bunch of old Bookmarks that had been altered, and replacing them.

But I've also found sites in which the button(s) have been "click jacked".
Basically, when you first click on a button, it will either take you another site.
{Instead of performing the original operation.}
Or a fake pop up message will appear, telling you to take a nasty disguised link.

Strange, it only happened on here when i replied..nowhere else.. and this was on a city computer, and nothing showed, even after a scan..
maybe it was a glitch ?
Next time, i'll try to take a screen shot..if it ever happens again..

I showed the message to CeaSar.

It turns out T&L Publications is using a White List of known good IP Addresses.
That they get from a company that checks if those IP Addresses are good, or are considered BOTs or known Spammers.

Some how we got taken off that White List.
