Well the 4024 is a 7 stage binary counter. Assuming the input of 50 to 60 cps is going to pin 1. The output on pin 4 is a divide by 64.
With 60 hz clock frequency the output would be
0.9375 hz. The clock won't be very accurate.
But the time base should be fine

if pin 4 is a divide by 64..what are the other pins divide by? i'd like to learn more about how this works...<p>still look for a simple time base that will be accurate if this is not best to use...

The 4024 is strictly a binary divider,and not suitable for dividing 50 or 60hz down to 1hz for a clock.
With a frequency as an input of pin 1 the outputs are as follows:
pin 12 input/2
pin 11 input/4
pin 9 input/8
pin 4 input/16
pin 5 input/32
pin 4 input/64
pin 3 input/128
From your previous posts you are concerned about
power failures, so you probably do not want a
line freqency clock. Your best bet is a crystal controlled clock.<p>If you give me a way to contact you, I just happen to have a clock module that will do what you want. It is assembled and tested. The PCB is about 2" square and works on 5 to 18VDC. It has outputs of 60hz,10hz and 1hz.
