Don't have any argument with your reply, but the specs I listed were right out of the manufacturers databooks. I myself have played around and gotten some regulators to work at 1.6V differential, but that was borderline. For solid initial design I think it would be wiser to stick with 2 plus volts or more as the manufacturer suggests. This way, any chip you pick out of the box is guaranteed to perform.

Robert<p>The cheaper by the million VRs are like you say.<p>The better ones actually have a 1.2 V reference. <p>As I Recall from my ancient days, you could disconnect the ground and use them as a 1.2 volt source. [Accurate too!]<p>Most people didnt understand, that you could use these same regulators for 120 volts, as long as the "differential" was within the specs.<p>[ September 16, 2005: Message edited by: Chris Smith ]</p>
