ok,,, i cannot help but to show this for all to see...
since i love electronics,,,and i am a clock nut..

Truly unique, dacflyer, but hands on a clock are so much easier to read! Maybe it's from my time-telling training (a very long, long 'time' ago!), but even reading a digital clock requires some math to "know" what time it is, don't you think?
11:19 requires math to know its about 20 past 11. But on an analog clock, the hands position tells me that immediately. AND, how about digital 24 hour clocks? 2151 just doesn't seem like about 10 minutes to 10! My 2c.<p>

the clock was microprocessor controlled..
the clock was sold as a parts kit or a built unit
now i cannot find nothing...it was on ebay for a while..no more now...what happends if the thing goes belly up..cannot find the micro no more ??<p>this is why the one i am working on will be made with off the shelf parts.. and be a simpler clock also.. no chimes for each hr.. unless you want to design that into it later , but right now it will be a simple clock.. but simelar to the big ben,,only it will be a bigger face and more leds..<p>heres another cool clock i stumbled onto.. its on e-bay<p>http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

Speaking of clocks, especially solid state ones. I have been building them for a while. The first one I built was in the mid 70's, used RTL IC's. The counters where johnson counters and they were easy to decode with 2 input gates. This clock used incandesent lamps as a readout arranged rows of 0 thru 5 and 0 thru 9 for seconds, 0 and 1,0 thru 9 for hours. It was set up as a 24 hour clock. It had 1 thru 7 for the days of the week. It took about 5 amps at 3.6 volts to run it.
The next one was using the MM5314 clock chip by
National Semiconductor. I was able to interface a flourescent display to it. It was built in the mid 80's. It still works to this day, however it gains a little time each month. This problem was traced to the internal circuits of the clockchip when using a drive circuit from the power transformer.
The next one used the NTE equivalent of the MM5316 and used 6" high yellow 7 segement displays. My wife's favorite color was yellow and I had to buy 10 readouts to build her clock with 4 displays. It used a bank of darlington transistors to drive each segment of the displays.
The next one was built about 6 years ago. Uses a crystal timebase to drive the NTE equivalent of the MM5316. The 1 PPS output drives a divide by 3600 circuit to display GMT hours. So the display is seven segment displays that shows hours and minutes in 24 hour time and 2 digits that shows GMT time.
Just thought I would share my clock building experiences.
