It won't power on<p>I found a little fuse inside, tried replacing it with a makeshift alum foil "fuse".. Pops it every time<p>I tried more foil and some capacitor or something turned red, popped and the top flew across the room...<p>What causes this? Nothing was spilled in there..<p>It's a KOMODO monitor... Maybe 96 vintage

Hi there,<p>Sounds like the input rectifier bridge
is blown, or at least one of the diodes.
You will have to check them all with
an ohm meter to see if one is shorted.
There will be four diodes to the bridge.<p>This is the most likely cause, but of course
it could also be something else.
Check the diodes first. If you find one
shorted, replace it with the exact type or
an equivalent.<p>--Al

Its sounds as if the flyback transformer shorted out internally. <p>Just replace it and you should be up and running.<p>Bill

A shorted capacitor (the one that exploded) will do this if you defeat the fuse. Capacitors sometimes develop an internal short for no apparent reason. Replacing the capacitor may solve your problem.<p>Ron H

You know what they did?? They sat it outside FACE DOWN and scratched the screen all up<p>They are lucky it didn't implode

gotta stop using that 20amp almunium foil !
you probably caused more dammage doing that than what it had before,, never over fuze !

Heh<p>At first, I had fashioned a fuse of the foil<p>The middle of it was around 1/16th of an inch...<p>That would have been ok but i wrapped the fuse 3 times with foil after that<p>Bad Bad idea<p>
Too bad they scratched it to hell it was a KOMODO!
