AC motor control

Post by Woodturner1 »

Does anyone have a schematic for a AC motor control circuit that will allow a AC motor to be varied in speed, such as a power drill? [email protected]

presuming you want to speed control your lathe, no way home-brew unless you change to a DC or universal motor. Every lathe I have used, metal or wood, uses an induction motor. The only way to control these is with a variable frequency controller. The complexity, parts availability and safety issues put it way outta my reach, and I'm a pro in several fields including turning and electronics. I have added a DC motor and speed controller to a small metal lathe, but that is an adjunct to the main (induction) motor for special operations and requires a belt change. The hours the average lathe motor works, brushes and commutator on a DC/universal motor aint gonna last long.
