MAC users... i need help.

Post by dacflyer »

edited since posting..

ok, i did somehow remember the password on this thing..
what i need to know now is how do i change the name (rename) of the computer..
it is a imac g5 ( powermac 12.1) with OS X on it..

better explained ..
when i click on the mac HD icon, then click on users, there is a house icon and the persons name.
i tried to change that name , and it will not allow it.. it says name cannot be deleted or modified, it is required by OS X..

Yeah,
You can not rename the ROOT without doing a full re-format of the hard drive and then do a fresh install of the OS.

My Aunt kinda inherited a PowerMac and it still had the old root user setup on it.
Unfortunately she didn't know the password to access it.
So, she made a separate Login for herself.
I played with it for several hours trying to guess the old pass word.
Or figure out a way to delete it.
I finally gave up, and told her to take it to a Computer Repair Shop,
and have them remove the Hard Drive from the PowerMac to a different computer.
Have them do a full drive format on it.
Then reinstall the Hard Drive into the PowerMac, and then reinstall the OS on it.

She hasn't gotten back to me on it.
Because she was debating on just replacing it.
