Virtual Box ???

Post by MrAl »

Hi there,

Anyone try this yet? It's a virtual machine that supposedly runs various operating systems in a virtual environment. Not sure if i would need it, but it's free, and may be useful?

I've used it quite a bit, it works great. I've run Windows from Linux and vice versa. The free version lacks a few things but nothing a casual user would miss. I've also played with VMWare a bit. But VMWare runs a tad slow on my PCs so I tend to avoid it.

Hi again,

Sounds interesting too. A friend is trying to get Virtual Box up and running but it doesnt seem to
want to work right. I dont know if i want to fool around with this stuff right now myself though,
but i am keeping it in mind the future perhaps.

I use VirtualBox a lot. On my home PC and Laptop I do a lot of server software testing and I don't need any additional PC's. If your system is powerful enough you can simulate a whole network with a server (Linux or Windows Server) and clients like XP or Win7. At work I mainly run a Linux desktop but Windows 7 in VirtualBox for some Windows Apps.

Microsoft Virtual PC is great for Windows operating systems, but it's a pain if you want to run Linux in a virtual PC. VirtualBox also runs as a host on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

VirtualBox is real easy to setup and run.

I use Virtual box for software testing - works fine on W7 64bit for me.

What exact problem is your friend having?
