Ok,

I kinda figured Blue-Ray was in there some how.

But after re-reading the spec's.
The reason it is so cheap, is it is ONLY A PLAYER.
It doesn't even write to CD-R's, let alone DVD-R's!
The kicker is the minimum system requirements.
Power Requirement: P4 D 3.0 CPU / 1G RAM or above for High-Definition movie playback and authoring.
Well,
Now that I think back.
This is how DVD got started in computers.
The DVD Players came first, then the burners started turning up about a year, or so later.
It just doesn't seem to have been that long ago.

Hi Janitor,

Yeah, i was going to suggest looking for a burner as that would read and write to BD's (blue ray disks).

What i can not tell you at this point is how long a reader or writer will work with BD's because they seem
to be always updating the technology. I dont know if the older readers and writers will be able to keep up
or not.
What i can tell you is that the blank disks are not that cheap, but most of them can store at least 20GB
per single disk, and each disk is same size as a CD disk. That's about 4 times the amount a DVD regular
disk can hold, and 2x what a double DVD disk can hold. The disks i have seen are about 5 dollars each
but i think they go as low as 3 dollars (USD) each. That's not that good, but then again that will reduce
a stack of regular DVD's from 2 feet high to only 6 inches high.
Seems to be i remember seeing some 60GB disks somewhere too. They are always trying to push that
number higher too.
There is one more thing to think about with BD's though...and that comes from the old old saying,
"Dont put all of your eggs into the same basket". That means that if you put 20GB of data on one
disk instead of 4 individual (DVD's) and something destroys one disk, you loose 4 times the data you
would have lost if you used 4 individual disks. That's even worse if you do get a 60GB disk as that
will be a loss of 12 times the data that would have been lost with one DVD disk.

Hehe......

You made me think of this lady, who I did work on her old computer{MonoRail}.

I warned her time, and time again to backup her hard drive.
Which contained a large group of files that were part of her family genealogy.

Well, the worst happened to her computer, in that it pickup a virus that damaged a lot of the files.
I spent two days digging through the mess that was left on the hard drive,
recovering as much of the files that I could moving them on to zip disks.
I then had to reformat the drive, and re-install the OS, and all the other programs.
Basically she lost the sum of 6 months of work that she had done.
I advised her it was time for a new computer, and to get an external hard drive.
So that she could use it as a backup.

She's moved now...
So, I don't know if she took my advise, or not.

What is the difference between cd rom and dvd rom? I received a cd-rom on Amazon.com and it was supposed to be a dvd rom... It looks like the same product that I ordered but on the front it says cd-rom and on the listing it says dvd rom.

Plain English version; Capacity.

CD-ROMs can store anywhere 650-900MB and DVDs can store around 4.7GB. DVDs store nearly seven times the data that a standard CD can.

Hi,

Yes, and BD (Blue Ray Disks) can hold 20GB or more, i've seen 60GB disks already and they are working
on higher densities than that even.
