Absolutely and easily done on systems running Windows XP and later.

Here is where typically I get lost in space, no idiotproofed statement.
Crossover firewire or plain firewire cable ??

What is next... crossover USB ? Not enough conductors to cross- I think...
I have a USB cable to interconnect 2 PC's, not a master/slave type of plain cable :

http://www.amazon.com/USB-DirectLink-Da ... B000BL6IZO
There is some customer reviews there...

But believed to be for transferring files only, not for "active linking" <--- these are my invented words.
It is soooo easy to goof with all these gadgets  Would such wire work ?

The short answer is no it won't work, the long answer is yes it can be made to work using a special USB "bridged" cable which is really a different animal. THIS LINK provides a slight overview.

The problem with using USB is it wasn't really designed for connecting or networking two computers. It was designed more as a serial bus to allow devices to be connected to a system.

The short sweet simple way is to use a crossover ethernet cable for this task. Things don't get any cheaper or simpler.
