Radio control of robot thru USB port transmitter

Post by GPerk »

I would like to purchase or construct a robot which is controlled by an on-board radio. The commands to the robot would be sent from a program on a PC thru the USB port to a radio transmitter/receiver.
In othe words, there would be 2-way flow of data between the PC and the robot.
The robot would have sensors including a camera, and would transmit the data to the PC's receiver. The PC program would use the data to determine commands to be transmitted to the robot.
Are there kits available which include the above features?

The Qwerkbot+ (page 10, Servo Mag, Aug 07) looks to be close to what I want, but it is not clear to me how the PC and robot communicate with each other. I'm not interested in using the internet.

I have seen bluetooth to USB ports for sale, so you could probably hack one of those (have seen it done) but I find Bluetooth a bit of a nightmare myself.

You could go down the RS232 to USB route and use some well established (and easy to use) hardware for the remote.

Hope this helps B)

The Surveyor SRV-1 seems to fit your description exactly. http://www.surveyor.com/
