For the 5V IC supply don't use resistors, use a regulator.

A course on basic electronics, starting with voltage, current and resistance would be too long for a forum. Anybody know of couple books (currently available) to get him started?

hmmmm

Some studying is definitely in order. I'm not trying to discourage you, but it is obvious you're starting at ground zero. I think controlling a motor with a microprocessor is too advanced for you right now.

uh, no offense but when you say things like "I'm not sure how to use resistors", I'd say you are just too far down the learning curve to have much hope of getting up to speed in a short period of time. This is the equivalent of some one saying - "I want to build a house, what is a nail for?"

there are lots of tutorials on the web. google and ye shall find. when you are little more familiar with the basic building blocks, then you will have more chance of success.

Old construction joke. new guy on the job is throwing away nails. foreman screams at him "what are you doing????", new guy says "they're pointing the wrong way". Foreman screams "Idiot, those are for the other side of the house".

oops i just searched how a resistor works
and i did understand how it worked
i just got confused over why one one one of my test experiments didnt work
i asumed that i didnt understand resistance but i was trying to do something a resister isnt made for
so now i have no problem with resitance
and the regulator i knew about i just never used it and when i saw the component i originally confused it for a transister  ones on each of my drill motors heatsinked and ready for use

i think im just going to power the controller and motors sepperately
motors by two 18v batteries and a 9v bat for the controller

i was more worried on how ill power up the sensors but if im right all of them should be powered by the controller

sorry for all the confussion

If they are part of the drill, they probably ARE transistors.

thank you
i was to busy before to realy start on the robot now i have the time so it should be coming along

as for the chip on the motors ive done some more searching and i think its a PWM converter transister (thats the best i can make from what it does)
the name is RFP50N06
if you want the specs its http://www.dannell.gb.com/site/rfp50n06.pdf

im also planing on making a website with it on it

i was thinking and i need help with what wheels to use on this robot

i was thinking of a bikes training wheel but that might not work because i think i got rid of all of them years ago

but im afraid the the motor would grind the wheel causing it to slip since my motor has a screw like end and its pretty strong

i would like to use the motors threads for a good attachment of the wheels but without grinding the wheel and causing it to slip

any ideas?

heres what the motor looks like incase you didnt see it in the begining of the post

the time it took you to make the 3d model... you could have built and tested it yourself! :P
