Re: Is RadioShack that confused?

You do know that there are both positive and negative versions of this family? The positive and negative versions have different pinouts . Sorry. I couldn't find a little emoticon that had its cheek being pushed out by its tongue. Don't bother. I have emoticons turn off and always ignore them. Anyo...

Re: Spam counteragent?

I'm getting pretty fed up with this stuff. It's polluting forums and filling my mailbox. Why not act like a grown up and ignore it? The reward for the vandals that cause this traffic is attention. It costs you (and anyone else for that matter) nothing to ignore them. If you let this nosense get to ...

Re: Those arc welder generators...

Somehow I don't think so. I don't think it is a DC permanent magnet motor being used- the commutator and brush lifespan would be an issue. Correct. A PMDC motor/gen would be a poor choice for welding. I think it's a 3 or more phase generator (like the alternator in most automoblies) with the approp...

Re: To PCB or not to PCB...

Kurt: This may be heresy on this board, but for the $60 cost of that kit, you can get a few PCBs professionally made and the quality will be light years ahead of anything you can do at home. Some folks like expresspcb.com, others use batchpcb.com and there are tons more if you just google cheap PCB...

Help Setting Up Home Networking (again)

Let's face it I suck at IT work! Even simple tasks seem to take a long time and require countless one hour calls to "hello my name is Rikki" in Mumbai. First some good news. I got the Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Broadband Router. Ordered it on-line as its not the latest Linksys/Cisco model fo...

Re: Suggestions for removing black 'blob'

Can you please post some part numbers of those items that crossed your desk? I heard that many Analog Devices parts were being counterfeited in the "early 2000s". AD likes to make single source parts and because of that, charge "through the nose" for replacements. Sorry, to post...

Re: Suggestions for removing black 'blob'

BTW, F/A is a fascinating career for those of you who are good with physics, chemistry and electronics (lets not forget report writing) at the same time (very cross-trainable). These guys get to use the most expensive tools in the company very often. It's like CSI for chips and passives. Agreed! Mo...

Re: Suggestions for removing black 'blob'

What i would like to try is removing part of the black blob. Not the whole thing, but just part of it perhaps. I'd like to see what can be done with it once part of the black blob is removed. Especially, i'd like to access some of the pins for possible rewiring. ... What would be nice is if someone...

Re: Those arc welder generators...

Those 'almost' portable, driven by a gasoline engine; have a DC generator capable of over 100 Amperes at about 100 Volts. ... Would one of those generators work as a DC motor ? Yes and No. A lot would depend upon how you expect the new motor to work. For arc welding the electrical source resistance...

Re: Help with dialectric grease and similar produc

Just a quick note here... Some brands of silicone rubber in a tube react badly with metal in that it actually corrodes it after it is applied. A good idea is to test some of the stuff you buy before slapping it on to something metal, even copper, and especially wiring. RTV will cure yet remain flex...

Re: Bad Economy?

Wow, National Semiconductor has recently cut 26% of its workforce This is the result of closing two facilities (Suzhou, China and Arlington, Texas). The layoff was 850 employees now, and just under 900 over several quarters as the facilities are de-commisioned. The Santa Clara fabs were closed some...

Wrong "Bob". Pease was king of VtoF circuits while at Natural Semi

The real Op Amp king was Robert "Bob" Widlar.

Re: SDHC Card failure

I gave up on the card! I cannot reformat it because nobody sees it! The camera says NO CARD and the computer says...nothing. Other cards, same make/model work in all the readers I have. I wonder if this is mechanical failure? Perhaps the contacts or a fine-width PCB trace were destroyed by the kios...
