Re: paralleling a tractor solenoid

I worked on a J D 318 a couple of weeks ago and his problem was the plug connecting the wiring to the ignition switch. There was a bad terminal that fed the switch (battery +). The loose connection generated enough heat to melt the plug housing and allowed one of the other wires to vibrate off. Wort...

Re: I am claiming dunce of the week

I work at what used to be the largest air conditioning plant in the world . Some of our units are 38' long, they are assembled on a moving slat conveyor approx 15' wide and 300' long. We had a thumbwheel switch to set the conveyor speed, smaller units= higher speed. Anyways the thumbwheel got crunch...

Re: electric motor question

Could also be a low voltage condition. Do the lights in the garage go dim when the joiner is running? If you can get to it safely, put a voltmeter across the motor terminals and start it and see what the voltage is.

Re: Elec dog collar enclosure

I've used pvc pipe for enclosures. glue a cap on one end and a screw in plug on the other, for battery replacement. You can make it any length or diameter you want, dirt cheap also..
[ August 16, 2005: Message edited by: gerty ]

Re: Green light!

Mike , I used to work on the traffic lights in my town years ago. The controller has/had what was called a "conflict monitor". What that did was look at the colors for the different directions. Any time you had the same color for both direction the controller would get knocked offline and ...

Re: wye/delta

I've seen some motors with two sets of windings for starting under a heavy load. The 'start' windings are low speed/high torque and are not for continous operation. The run windings are are typical.. The starting contactors are timed so that the start comes in to get load moving then the run takes o...

Re: Three phase power, from 220V line??

Sounds like 'they' had a 3 phase panel they wanted to pawn off on somebody. By putting that jumper in ,all breaker slots will work, just not 3 phase..

Re: hooking up an alternator, question

Looking at the alternator from the BACK you should have the battery terminal(stud connection) then on the side terminals 1 and 2 of regulator. #1 is 12 volts and #2 field excitation thru the dash bulb. I have used a diode and tied it to the ignition coil. The field cannot be connected directly to ba...

Re: 24kw AC generator frequency problem

Try an electric heater for a load. It'll suck the power and not put any 'noise' on your waveform.
Are you going to put some sort of cover over the generator, it doesn't look weatherproof...

Re: Electric Go-Kart

You might look at an electric golf cart for ideas.
We use them here at work, they have six 6 volt batteries for power and that may be a real consideration on a go cart for the weight and size.
