Re: No Ethernet or Network Connection

Seems there's been a misunderstanding. Following the flash drive install instructions, when you say "it doesn't show the download", I don't believe it needs to show it. You just need to select the right directory; the pc should do the rest. Or, there should be a 'show all files' option in ...

Re: can not any longer view .BMP files - HELP

What pray tell is "disk compact agent"? Any software that calls itself "agent" I automatically assume is working
for the other side! If it's anything to do with compressing files automatically to save drive space, my
advice is disable it asap. Or sooner.

Re: No Ethernet or Network Connection

If it is Win98 we're talking about here, I think it does include a driver for USB 1. But, as I recently experienced, I couldn't get
my Win98 machine to recognize anything bigger than a 1G thumb drive. And anything with U3... forget it.

Re: No Ethernet or Network Connection

Your computer won't transfer from a USB thumb drive to the hard drive? That doesn't sound good. You might need to find USB drivers, too. Sounds like that is the proper device driver that you downloaded, but did you try the Update Driver instructions from my previous post? Hmmm... you say, "I we...

Re: can not any longer view .BMP files - HELP

BMP files first... What application were you using before to view BMPs? Have you tried right-clicking on a BMP file and choosing 'Open with', then 'Choose default program' from the menu? I think you can also set file associations from Windows Explorer, but I can't recall the details. Now to Outlook ...

Re: No Ethernet or Network Connection

Friendly advice... First you said, "All I did was restore a Dell Desktop computer with the restore disk" Then you said, "I also put a new CD-Rom in..., and there were viruses in the C:/ drive" Please 'help the helpers' by refraining from such tactics. To be frank, and I often am,...

Re: Media Player 12

Yes, the Microsoft site looks real slim when it comes to WMP12. And there could be some confusion of definitions of "embedded" and "standalone". I have wmplayer.exe dated 8/29/09 in the Program Files (x86)/Windows Media Player folder. That leads me to believe it's standalone. Hav...

Re: Signal Tracer revisited.......

The inclusion of the modular phone cord suggests this isn't an RF output device. There's a 1-page "manual"
here -> http://www.lashen.com/vendors/tempo/Man ... 77a77m.pdf
My "M77 Tracer" search returned lots of artillery sites.

Re: Media Player 12

I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 with current updates. I have WMP 12 but it is 32-bit and is most definitely a stand-alone app.
I'm also confused about "Removing it with 'Windows Accessories'." Did you mean Control Panel/Programs and Features?

Re: Signal Tracer revisited.......

That's also what I'm thinking. There's not much difference between 1kHz and 800Hz, relatively speaking. "Warbler", too, implies a multi-tone output; I'm not familiar with the M77 Tracer Unit. That aside, C4 could be disconnected from pin 7 and probed at pins 2, 1, and 6. The LM386 is spec'...

Re: What is the best computer virus protection?

Nope, don't know how to make it make work. I guess AVG thought of the good software reason. My Win98SE computer is only on a home LAN so I don't think I have an active antivirus on it, but it is an interesting dilemma for Win98SE "orphans". Addendum: " ClamWin is a Free Antivirus prog...

Re: LED as power on indicator with AC Mains Supply

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I appreciate the clarification. And I too am confident MrAl would not foist some half vast boondoggle on the group. I just wanted you to be aware of precautions and shortcomings. I'm dissatisfied with the shortcomings of all the suggestions, including my own (i.e. par...

Re: LED as power on indicator with AC Mains Supply

Am I pushing things in terms of current demand? In the judgment of a conservative technician, perhaps. In my judgement, no. In the judgement of your average non-tech user, NO. -and- My mains circuit is 15A rated. My power strip is 10A rated. It's not really about judgement. Half the information is ...
