Hey.... no more of this back and forth arguing.

And yes, I want an O-scope, not something I have to plug into a computer.

I think I've gotten all the information out of this thread that I can. Thanks everyone!

Greetings David H., Calibration is the process of comparing an instrument to a standard, and making adjustments to reduce the error to a stated spec. This has nothing to do with resolution, which is the ability of an instrument to resolve small differences in quantity (voltage or time for example)....

The main focus of my post was primarily to get "buyer beware" warnings, and see if anyone had any bad experiences buying a scope. I understand that I should not buy any scope on ebay that does not have a picture showing sharp traces on the screen, anything that does not pass all startup te...

I definetly need at least 2 channels (need to compare input and output!), and I need to be able to take a "capture" on the scope of whats being displayed to analyze it. I don't need any other fancy functions. I used 2 different scopes back in college, i beleive they were both Tektronix. On...

Used Oscilloscope Buyer's Guide?

I decided now's the time to invest in an oscilloscope. I plan on saving a bunch of money and getting a used one, unless what I could use is relatively inexpensive and I'd be better off getting a new one. I don't do any high frequency stuff, the fastest signals I have are the clock signals for my AVR...

I'm no expert on RF but if proximity to the circuit affects noise, you might need to ground your stuff better. Interesting thing about the AM radio comment... I remember when I got into electronics building guitar distortion pedals, which are pretty much simple op-amp circuits. On a few of them I wo...

well looks like I was sort of right. I thought it looked like wire wrapping but I didn't see any wire wrap posts. I'll be picking up some wire wrap wire but no wire wrapping tool, but I will be picking up a really fine tipped iron! My big old radio shack one is too bulky to do that kind of soldering...

I was under the impression that's wire wrap wire.

Maybe they just use the wire and don't use the tool?

Hopefully somebody on here who's done boards like these will see this and tell me what the heck they're doing.

I could have sworn it was wire wrapping.

Getting started wire wrapping (or prototyping like this)

I want to start making prototype PCB's like I see online and in N&V. Just like the pictures down below. This looks like they're wire wrapped and then soldered? I'm putting in a parts order from Digi-key later today. Any recommendations to what to get to get started wire wrap prototyping? To I ne...

its reasons like this that any consumer electronics that's getting thrown out in my family or circle of friends goes through me and my desoldering iron first.

I believe all the IC sockets I have were from a surplus dealer. Now only if I had picked up some double wides...

Why are these so expensive???

Header pins! I'm trying to find ones that will match up with the connector on the AVRISP2. How is a little piece of plastic and some metal $2?! Heck, the headers on the board on the cover of the November N&V cost $3.15 a piece! Somethings wrong when a microcontroller and the jack you'd use to pr...

Of course I've already read the wikipedia article  Everything is mainly geared towards vehicle systems and the data format. The system we're working on has just over 300 nodes in 6 different places. On a small scale system cat 5 is fine, but probably not in this application. Its really the inf...

CAN Network Wiring Standards?

I've been looking all over the internet and haven't found anything on this. I've been asked to find out what the wiring specs for using CAN in a building is. Seems like all the info I pull up on CAN is for vehicle applications or CAN's protocol. Its cool to see the project where someone tapped the C...
