We use the ignitor from a coleman latern on our 'tater cannons down here.
They are the twist type that use a zippo lighter flint, just drill a 1/4" hole slip it in and put the nut on..
For fuel we use the cheapest hair spray we can find...

Does the door operate smoothly when pushed by hand? Does it trip a breaker or blow a fuse when the door doesn't move ? Seems like something gotta give when the door doesn't operate, or is it a timed function?

Some other things that have an effect on the current draw is cubic inched, compression ratio, worn rings,valve timing. There is a commercial amp meter for this application that you hold against the battery cable. .J.C. Whitney used to carry them, can't vouch for their accuracy, best I can remember 3...

The hoists we had at work were 3/4 hp and rated for 1,000 lbs. Not a clue as to how many fet per second. Don't forget you'll need some sort of brake to keep the load in the up position when you let go of the button.

MCM sells a set of tamper proof bits with a couple different size tri-wings for about $9..I'm sure there are others also, Google for 'tamper proof bits'

I had a similliar problem with a ft-50..It just woke up dead one morning.. I checked battery voltage at radio contacts and it was 0. Plugging in charger had no effect, borrowed another battery and it came to life. The frequencies in memory were wiped out, had to do a reset and reprogram. That happen...

If you are connecting something that is going to be grounded(radio) make sure you use the 12v battery that has the neg going to ground. All of this assuming you have a 24 v neg ground system...
