Re: Cleveland Institute of Elec.

A good many years ago I bought their electronics slide-rule with a series of instructional lessons.
Still got it lying around somewhere but the booklets disappeared long ago.
A big difference between that and an electronics course but I remember being satisfied with their service.

Yes, I agree with Dean too.
It's quite refreshing compared with, say, the Google newsgroups.

Hi Paul,
Can't be of any help myself I'm afraid, but I would have thought that RadioShack should be able to obtain the schematic for you, perhaps at some cost.
The auto manufacturers, and independent publishers, supply shop manuals. I see no reason why RS should be any different.
It might be ...

Re: grounding straps

Hello Dave (Dixon).
The point of my post was, as you have grasped, to try to explain the reason for the conductive connection between the work and the person.
This seems to escape a great number of people, who, I must assume, just don't understand what is going on.
They are surprised to hea...

Re: grounding straps

A wrist strap is for the protection of static-sensitive components. It should be connected through the 1M resistor, as you correctly state, but to the conductive work-mat on which the sensitive parts are placed.
The point of it is to make sure that you are at the same potential as the work-piece ...

Re: Turn siginals into fog lights

Hello Ryan,
In fog, it's more important to have more light at the back than the front to reduce the risk of some idiot running into your rear.
More light at the front seldom, if ever, helps you and it's debatable whether it helps anyone else.

The voltage across a series circuit at resonance is minimum, while the current through it is maximum.
Conversely, the voltage across a parallel circuit at resonance is maximum, the current through it is minimum.
The fact that Xl=Xc in the series circuit is also true for the parallel case.

Sulphation is the build-up of lead-sulphate crystals on the positive plate, not the lead coming off it.
The lead-sulphate crystals increase the internal resistance of the affected cell.
The traditional cure is a long slow charge, which often needs to be repeated.
It would seem that the puls...

You could get a dog and train him as a doorman/bouncer for a conventional cat flap and to police the mog's movements.

Re: Power Supply help

Mike,
since your transformer gives a much higher voltage than the minimum required, there is a much easier thing you could try. That is to use half wave rectification to get both pos and neg rails.
From one end of the transformer secondary use a diode to get a pos rail and from the same end use...

Re: Power Supply help

Stephen's suggestion is the best solution. I have used this myself to get pos and neg rails, with a derived common, or "ground", from a single supply.
It uses two shunt regulators in series across the single supply. The derived ground being the junction of the two regulators.
There i...
