Re: Dead DOS computer
A client had a custom program running in DOS for years until the motherboard quit. I was asked to write a Windows version of the program, but I needed to see how the old DOS version worked. Instead of trying to make DOS work with modern hardware, I used the free version of VMware. It worked perfectl...

Re: NET vs. PHP
In a quick search, I could only find articles that lean one way or the other. ASP vs. PHP is quite the debate, almost religious. When on a Windows box, I use .Net. On Linux servers, I use PHP. In rare case where it's available, I use a Java web framework. Use what you're comfortable with (or curious...

A close friend has a similar device she uses for scrapbooking. I has a small Exacta-like blade that does the cutting. Can you cut traces with an Exacta knife?

Re: DC Genset - I've gone and over-complicated things
Wow, that's really slick, MrAl! It's ok to add a 1N5401 to shunt Q2.E to ground to protect Q2, correct? Standard caps around the 78L05 as well? Now comes the understanding-it-part. Here goes... If I'm not mistaken, the max charge side is a standard linear VR where R6==r2 and R5==r1 (in Vref = Vin*(1...

Re: DC Genset - I've gone and over-complicated things
MrAl, I bought the Bi-directional current sensors on purpose. At some point, I'd like to monitor the drain current on the batteries individually to make performance assessments. I don't mind the reduced granularity. It would be fine for the alternator outputs to max when the load was large enough, s...

Re: DC Genset - I've gone and over-complicated things
MrAl, 4) Yes, the only load on the system will be via the inverter (48v output). I don't foresee using the individual batteries to power anything other than the circuit we're looking at in this thread. 5) the AD5204 is a DIP IC that fit the bill. I didn't look for a 2ch. If I move to surface mount, ...

Re: DC Genset - I've gone and over-complicated things
MrAl, 1. You have four batteries, each 12v, and they are wired in series and power some stuff as 48vdc right? correct, they power a 3.6kw inverter 2. You have four alternators, each one powers it's own battery. yes, they are isolated from one another and each is connected to one of the 12v AGM batts...

DC Genset - I've gone and over-complicated things
I've been using MrAl's circuit with my DIY genset for some time now, it works well for the 12v setup I had initially. However, in the 48v system I'm experimenting with now, I've run into some trouble. There are now four of the MrAl-gulators controlling each of the four alternators and the PID tuning...

Re: Use pspice models in LTSpice?
I've got a model of a 1N5401 that has those parentheses, but it has the same problem.
I can get .SUBCKT to work, but not .MODEL. I wonder if all models need to be wrapped in a .SUBCKT in order to be found using only SYMATTR directives in the .asy file. Not sure.

Re: Use pspice models in LTSpice?
I'm able to make this work, but not without a .inc directive. I've tried it 20 different ways, but I'm unable to make the ModelFile asy SYMATTR work. Any LTSpice gurus out there?

Use pspice models in LTSpice?
Has anyone found a good guide for importing pspice models into LTSpice? I couldn't a TIP3055 and a 1N5340 in the pre-installed components, so I figured I'd try my hand at finding/fixing my own. I'm having trouble following Biggelz' guide. It seems to say that I just need to copy (or create) a simila...

Re: Audiophiles nessecity?
A far more ubiquitous yet not quite as egregious example of this is MonsterCable. People buy these things all the time, despite the studies that prove they are no better than standard zip cord (or is it lamp cord?) at a fraction of the price. People actually pay $150k for a pair of speakers or $8k f...
