Amazing soldering tool

Anyone had any experience with this soldering tool recently advertised on some cable channels that features instant heat up, instant cooling? Sells for $19.95 and they throw in a wire stripper. What they claim is you can touch the tip seconds after using and you won't get burned, carry in a pocket a...

Re: Voltage follower with variable offset?

Oops . Thanks for filing in the missing word "zener" in my suggested solution and, yes, a limiting resistor would be necessary - just like in a zener voltage regulator circuit. BTW, I suppose you could sub a pot in the first inverter opamp feedback path so you could twiddle with fine tuning.

Re: Voltage follower with variable offset?

What if you invert the 0-10v input, clip the resulting 10 - 0 v with a diode, then re-invert that? - This makes so much sense to me that I know there must be a hole in it wide enough for flaming arrows.

Re: amperage or current

For my money - H & H plus a set of Don Lancaster's "CookBooks" can suffice for most eveything. Even makes for good bathroom reading.
And as for shorts, isn't it fun to hear the cable man tell you there's a "shortage" somewhere down the line.

Re: 1N111 germanium diode

If a germanium is required it's probably because of it's lower forward voltage drop. Most most small signal germaniums will interchange, i,e, a 1n34a for a 1n111. Try a NTE109 from Mouser which subs for a bunch of 'em.

Re: Automatically switching 2 audio signals based on input l

I've built an audio detector to logic level circuit along your rectifier idea. All that was needed was a diode, a .1 mfd cap and a resistor in a simple half wave rectifier config . The resistor was a pot to adjust sensitivity. The trick is to follow it with a schmitt (sp?) trigger - one stage of a 7...

Re: Drilling PC Board

My first post. Be gentle!<p>I'll 2nd & 3rd the Dremel solution. I use the two speed unit (on low speed) and Dremel's own drill press gadget. Bought their teeninecy drill bit and have used the same one for at least five boards with ten or more holes and the bit is yet unbroken. All my boards were...
