Re: generator head variable load

Hearers work quite well. Check out Watlow and Chromalox for cartridge heaters. Stick them in a block of aluminum with a few pipes so serve as a crude heat exchanger. The nice thing about heaters is that the loading is fairly constant unlike a incandescent lamp.
Ron

Re: audio questions

There are two problems with soldering. One is efficiency, it takes extra time. The other is the need to clean the flux, and many cleaners are harmful to automotive interior parts. No clean fluxes often times are not active enough to work well on slightly oxidized copper, and the fumes in a confined ...

Re: audio questions

Its hard to hire a decent high school kid for $8. Most want more, the good ones deserve it. Some are hardly worth minimum wage.
If you get your MECP basic installer cert, have the drive for excellence, continuous learning, get the top MECP fabrication a while later you should do well. If you want ...

Re: Could it be "The Skin Effect"

The dip it tool coating does not provide electrical insulation for safety purposed, and since there is no control over the application, liability would not be an issue.
It may be ionic contamination as someone posted previously. Encapsulating electronics is common, but you have to use the right m...

Re: gm obd 2 unit

The car chip is a cool techie toy. Its a real blast to monitor your driving and others. Espcially braking and acceleration. I got one about 6 months ago.
Another logger is available from www.roadsafety.com (it does everything for something like $3000) although they do have a personal unit too. Ano...

Re: Need Advice on Multimeter purchase

Thanks Edd
That was the problem eecept my plate was warped rather than cracked. I made a few phone calls, and was unable to locate a new plate, so out it went in the trash. For a $150 meter to have such a poor design with no parts available made me vow never again.
Ron

Re: Need Advice on Multimeter purchase

Thats Simpson is good one. I've got a couple Simpson 260's and a Radio Shack FETVOM from the 70's. Besides the handle its been pretty much bullet proof. Analog meters are much better than digital in some cases. However some of the higher end DVM's have useable bargraphs for trend and pulse analysis....

GM runs on a single wire and uses CDMA/CD otherwise known as VPW. It runs around 10kbits, and GM does not follow the SAE-J1850 spec to closely.
You can get a pc interface chip from www.elmelectronics.com, or a complete module from www.scantool.net
Ron

Re: led question

Paralight has some that are beyond 12000mcd. However they do not yet have the data on the web site. Gut feel suggests it takes a while to translate. They are spendy and run on something like 350mA. They are similiar to the 150mA units on their website. The rep was here before Christmas, and brought ...
