Re: Capacitor
Incandescent light bulbs are resistive. Their power factor is perfect already. Perhaps you saw a capacitor in series with light bulb, to use it on a higher voltage. Or your electrician saw an electrician who knew what he/she was doing put a capacitor across a motor to correct its power factor (motor...

Re: Anyone make anything interesting for christmas ?
By GPS, do you mean time syncronised to GPS?. . . make it also GPS and RTC.
If it tells time of day, it already is RTC. Add day, month and year for complete RTC?
Merry Christmas, and if you go out to party on New Year's eve don't forget taxi money.

Its a good thing when they do. But wouldn't they come back if they seriously meant their question?

Re: LM3914 Help
I hope I did it right and am done.If you need a calculator for the LM3914, there's plenty on-line.
For example, LT1084 sheet says 10 mA minimum load and Out to Ref is 1.5V. A few clicks on Windows calculator I had resistor values.
((R1 may need to be 9.31 kΩ instead of 14.7 kΩ.))
Cheers,

Re: LM3914 Help
Short time I would have suggested two 9V batteries in series through a momentary contact switch to pin 3 of LM3914.
Full time calls for a voltage regulator from BUT (battery under test). I'll modify image from post 1 and come back.

Re: LM3914 Help
Will this stay connected to battery full time and continuously on? Or with a momentary "on" switch?

Re: LM3914 Help
Actual spec sheet
https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm3914.pdf
max supply is 25V and measure input(s) protected to 35V.
Regulate supply to 15V - 18V. Voltage divide input by 2. That will give a 26V high end input, while staying safely away from IC maximums.
(half of 26V is 13V)

Re: loud tv commercials
Sorry to rain on your parade, but progress probably prevents doing it. No more volume potentiometers, the circuit you need to tap into is inside a big chip, even the audio line(s) to the power amp chip could be a trace inside a multi-layer board. If you find something that works on modern TVs, let u...
