I was referring to how fast they process an order, not how long it takes UPS to get it here. For as long as I can remember, if you order by 6pm CST, the order will probably go out the same day. We've used Digikey for several years now. Extremely happy with inventory availability and FAST shipping. A...

MC145447 is the chip I think I used so many years ago...

Had to google it, but it sounds right. It also needs a phone coupling transformer & the usual telephone interface stuff. I think also XECOM used to have a DAA (Data Access Arrangement) module with Caller ID.

The simple answer is History. When Microchip bought the rights to the PIC architecture (from General Instrument?) they made it trivial to get samples, put up TONS of application help (I have a book of Microchip code & schematics of real world little apps) and made sure all the popular catalog co...

It's a clever idea but I see a few problems: 1) Where is your reference coming from? If it's derived from Vcc then your design won't work. 2) Most digital pots won't handle much current. Make sure that the current through the LM317 resistor isn't more than the pot can dissipate. 3) Question: why not...

I have pretty much switched to all SMT except where I have lots of through-hole parts I need to use up. Start out with 1206 resistors & caps and SOIC ICs if possible. They are easy to solder by hand. I bought some 0805 LEDs by accident and they were harder to use: can't even breathe hard around ...

I think the Roving Networks RN24 has an analog input. I am currently working with the RN41, but it's all digital. If I'm wrong about the RN24, take a look at the Parani units from Sena, I know one or the other has a unit that has analog input.

Congratulations!

Lucky for you that you don't follow my motto: if at first you don't succeed, try something easier ;-)

Before you dump the Brother, send it to me. I like my HL5140 laser and the fax/copier/injket upstairs and would happily get another.

There's an appnote on Atmel's site (www.atmel.com of course) on using one of the tinyAvrs in a constant-current supply.

If you go big I have an IEEE journal somewhere with a paper on building a high-precision 900A constant-current supply :-)

A thought:
Have you considered using infrared LEDs so the animals won't notice at all, or do you need white light because you want the recording in color?

Yeah, we could use the rain: it's been unusually dry for the last month. There's nothing wrong with your analysis, but except for flood illumination, light is not normally needed in all directions so LEDs are more "efficient" than they seem. MrAl can probably expand on this. IIRC, a 1W whi...

The part number from k7elp looks familiar. I'm away from my lab now so I can't check.

I didn't know about the T-handle tool at the time and ended up machining my own insertion tool that fits in an arbor press. For $20 it would have been worth it for all the time I spent at the mill building one :-(

You're doing this in high school?? I'm impressed. My undergraduate EE final year project wasn't remotely this complex.
Heck, even the software projects I did in grad school were simpler than this.

My hat's off to you. More so if you can get it done by the time you graduate!
