Re: Resistors for serious dummies.

To limit the current. The drop across the leds will vary all over the place from part to part and with time and temperature. Even if the forward drop from the spec sheets adds to 9 volts, thats only nominal. You could grab 3 parts that have forward drops at nominal current that add to 7 volts... in ...

1)Hit it with a pulse, measure the decay time.
2)Place it in series with a known resistance. Sweep frequency signal, measure 3db point.

Re: LED Surprise

Your calculations are correct (at least the thinking behind them is, I didn't check your math)..up to a point.
You are assuming that IF is actually going to be the IF on the data sheet (at least I think your are assuming that). This might not be the case. Dig deeper into the spec sheet to worst c...

Re: Where is my stepper motor?

Most "regular" pots are "wire wound". With the wiper making contact with 2 or 3 turns at a time. As the wiper moves the resistance changes in steps. If you can find one that has more steps per degree than your stepper motor, you should be able to use a "regular pot". Of...

Re: Where is my stepper motor?

You want an Absolute Encoder. Such beasts tell you exactly where you are by measuring exactly where you are, not by remembering where you are, which is prone to error, as others and you have pointed out. Here are some absolute encoders:
http://www.pepperl-fuchs.com/fa/rotaryencoders/absolute/defa...

Re: Ground Loop Isolation

Ground loop? Is any of this equipment actually grounded? Consider grounding the computer and not grounding the other equipment. That should open any loop there might be.

Re: Toshiba TV intermittent Remote Reception

You've just described every remote I've ever owned. I believe you are shifting the batteries when you wack it. Next time, instead of wacking it, remove the battery cover and shift them, roll them and generally move them around.
As far as what would cause intermittent operation of the TV remote re...

Re: Ideas For A Sensor

I'm confused. Apparently we are talking about a real game (not a computer game). I assume the robot arm is used because its too tough to place your marker on an internal position. Although I suppose its possible you are talking about a computer vs. human game.
In any event, if all players use the ...

I'm sure there are a zillion ways to sense toner level. Here's the first one I looked at after googling --toner level sensor--
http://www.tdk.com.hk/english/pdf/Senso ... 461_TS.pdf
